Newark Carnival has been registered as a Community Interest Company, or CIC as they are widely known. CICs are reserved for organisations that wish to use their profit for the public good, and solely for the benefit of the local community. Treasurer Elaine Ellison said "This will mean Newark Carnival is a step further to becoming a permanent fixture in the town and it means even more benefit for the people who live in Newark."

At the annual general meeting of Newark Carnival, the theme for the 2009 Carnival was chosen.

Participants will this year dress and build floats along the theme of 'Newark at the movies'.

Anyone wishing to take part in the parade is urged to register as soon as possible to avoid

disappointment when choosing films.
