The date has been set for this year’s Newark Carnival: Sunday 22nd June 2014.
The town is set to come alive with music as this year’s theme of “Newark is Alive with the Sound of Music” aims to make plenty of noise as it hits the historic streets.
Groups are asked to make their theme as loud as possible, with the aim to fill the air of Newark with musical notes from theatre shows to rock and pop, and via musical icons from every era and decade.
“We are really excited to be joining forces again with the Newark Festival” chairman of the Carnival Committee Mrs Elaine Ellison said. “It was a fantastic event last year, and working with the Town Council and Liz Hobbs Groups gives the carnival an extra special feel”.
The 2013 Carnival saw over thirty groups take part in the event, with a total of 36 local organisations and community groups parade thought the streets making it the biggest Carnival Newark has ever seen.
“Our ambitious aim is to hit the magical 40 groups. It may be a tough target, but we really feel with this easy to adaptable theme we can do it” commented Carnival Community Coordinator Mr Howard Newport said.
Logistics Coordinator Mr Steve Beeching added “Working as part of the Festival weekend makes the event planning much easier, and as tradition states, the event will begin at 2pm, and we hope to use our popular, shorter route again this year.”
“Registration is now open online at our website right now for groups to take part” Mrs Ellison added. “It’s first-come, first-served with themes as ever, so sign up sooner rather than later.”
Mr Newport also added “Get in early with your registration as with the date now released we expected to have a steady flow of themes come in, so don’t wait”
Registration is via the website at newarkcarnival.com, with groups being able to pick any theme that falls under the event theme of “Newark is alive with the sound of music.”
